Job searching can be challenging. In fact, that might be an understatement. If you’ve been in the market for a while, it may be discouraging and frustrating. What can you do to ease and improve the process? It’s always a good idea to take a step back from something you’ve been doing for a while. Look at it through a fresh lens and consider alternatives. Here are a few ways you can ease and update your job search process.
Assess What is Working
When you’re feeling frustrated by your healthcare job search, it can be helpful to take a step back and look at what is working. Where have you had positive feedback in your search? Maybe you are getting a call back on your resume. That demonstrates your resume is eye-catching and has the qualifications that companies are looking for. Once you know what is working, you can refocus on the changes you need to make.
Consider Your Passions
Or maybe you’re just looking for the wrong job altogether. Maybe your heart isn’t in it, and companies can see that. Instead, take some time to look at the things you really want to do. Write a list of your interests and passions. Then write a second list with your skills. Once you have both lists, try to see what matches and figure out the sweet spot where you can do what you’re good at with a job you love.
Another thing many people overlook when they’re searching for healthcare jobs is networking. Networking is an essential skill for everyone and not just those in customer facing positions. Try to find events in your area specifically for your field or for healthcare professionals in general. Challenge yourself to attend one in the next month.
Lastly, make sure you’re following up on all of your applications. It can be frustrating to send your resume into what feels like a black hole, but you might be able to do something about that. Follow up after you submit a resume. You may not get everyone to respond, but more than if you skipped this step. And make sure you follow up after interviews with thank you notes.
